318 Patchwork Patterns Quilt-a-long – My week 1
While my hubby is braving the freezing cold outside with our trick-or-treaters, I’m inside with the teenager handing out candy….And writing a blog post! I almost forgot to share my finished blocks for this weeks 318 Patchwork Patterns Quilt-a-long! I still have the tulip and heart to work, but I did finish these:
I decided to enlarge the patterns to 6″ as many others have, which I’m finding is easier to work with. The ice cream block was machine stitched because it was a fairly easy one for me. I used freezer paper to help me with this block, but can someone tell me if there are certain brands that work better than others? Mine didn’t like to stay on long so I used a dot of fabric glue to help me out.
Here is the dreaded apple. It may look easy, but that dang stem nearly did me in! I machine stitched the lower portion, then got out my Aurifil and hand stitched the rest. I was tempted to cut the stem in half (which would have been sooo much easier) but I didn’t. Not too bad in the end though.
The last one I just finished this afternoon. I used some cute Kawaii scraps for the star and some scrap strips of fabric that I found in the ol’ remnants bin. This one I found easier to do than the apple if you can believe it. I machine stitched everything but where the star met the curved pieces. That took a little time.
This weekend I hope to finish the heart and tulip. The weather is going to be nasty and possibly snowy, so hopefully I can squeeze in some time! Ooh, before I go, here is a shot of a cute little tutorial I will be sharing this weekend on the blog:
Say hello to The Gameday Wristlet! I will have a complete tutorial & free download to share with you this weekend, so stay tuned!
Happy Halloween everyone, have fun!
