WIP Wednesday & A Baby Spring Bag
Hi there! I know I’m a bit late for WIP Wednesday, but I do have major WIP going on in the studio. Here’s the first one that is actually done!
I have no name for her, but after receiving some Dreamin’ Vintage in the mail a few weeks backs I knew this fabric had to be made into something cute and springy. The closure uses velcro as does the front pocket. I use velcro on occasion, but since this was more of an experiment gone very well I may use it again. The straps were hand cut and stitched out of 5 oz veg-tan leather I cut into 2 1/2″ strips. Very soft on the hand and will age nicely. The fabric was also interfaced with Pellon SF101 and Annie’s Soft & Stable. My favorite combo.
I finished two more blocks from my 163 Japanese Patchwork book. This quilt is going to be a funky one when it’s done too! I have used scraps for all of them, which has been an added challenge. I’m still hitting Y-seams and other evil techniques now that the easier ones are done so it has been a bit frustrating. But I continue to plug along and hope to learn a few things in the process.
Last week I finally broke down and bought the Sew-Together-Bag pattern by Sew Demented. It is really a pretty straight forward pattern and if you are comfortable with zipper installation and binding it comes together pretty fast. The only struggle I have had is with the written directions. There are not as many pictures and diagrams as I was hoping, but The Quilt Barn Blog had a week-long sew-along series featuring this pattern that was a tremendous help! I think I may make a few of these for teachers gifts next month. I think they’d be a hit.
So that’s all the WIP I can show you at the moment. In the next few weeks I hope to share a bit more of what else is going on around here. I can say it involves needlebooks, a scrappy summer quilt sew-along, pattern testing and a blog hop I’m participating in July.
Thanks for reading today and if you are new to Raspberry Sunshine, Welcome!! Cindy
How cute is that bag?! It’s perfect for those fabrics! Love the fabrics you chose for the sew together bag, I’ve been debating on getting it for a while because it’s adorable but am having a hard time justifying buying yet another bag pattern lol!
