A Little Slice of Heaven
I’m having Cape Cod withdrawal people! The sunny, cool weather. The sea air. Our family gatherings. A week of fun and adventures that the boys loved and the hubby got to unwind. So as promised, here is a visual tour of our week on the Cape!
Several times during out visit Uncle C took all the cousins out on his boat for fishing, sightseeing and most of all TUBING!! Our boys have never been tubing but they caught on fast.
The boys spent a lot of time in the water. The cottage overlooked a bay where owners had their boats. It was shallow water and *the* place to go crab hunting and clamming. We tried looking for a few blue crabs to catch, but they were too fast. Oldest did manage to find a spider crab which was the ugliest creature I’ve ever seen. We spent a whole afternoon mid-week clamming. We had rakes and nets and other tools, but most of us ended up digging with our hands and feet. We caught enough to fill a large basket so Uncle C could make his famous clam chowder *pronounced chow-da*! If two of my boys inhaled their chowder you know it has to be a winner!
Tuesday we spent the day on Martha’s Vinyard. We opted to take the Ferry so the boys could have a slow trip over to look at the sights. We headed over to Oak Bluffs then immediately went to the Flying Horse to go on the carousel, which is indoors.
Pardon the blurry shot. What makes this ride so fun for kids is that every time you make trip around you can reach out and try to grab a ring like you see T do. There is a place on top of the horse to stack the ones you caught, but the goal is to try and get a brass ring to earn a free ride. The boys didn’t get a brass ring, but got tons of the other ones.
We spent the rest of our time walking around the shops and streets, eating good food and grabbing a few souvenirs. I think the boys liked the giant arcade the best as we spent A LOT of time there!! I was the ultimate winner though because I hit the jackpot at Plinko and won 1100 tickets. The boys were going nuts.
I ended up getting the boys lots of random toys but I did trade in a few tickets for a cute Hello Kitty plush LOL! After the arcade we ate at the yummiest Mexican restaurant and then walked off all those calories looking at the gorgeous homes in the area. It’s so fun to walk the narrow streets and look at the plaques with the homes name and date it was constructed. To see homes built over 150 years ago that are decorated in all sorts of colors is something you truly have to see live. My picture doesn’t do justice of what we saw!
The top place to visit on our vacation for my 10yo was The Cap Cod Potato Chip Factory. The tour was free, self-guided and showed the whole process of how their chips were made. These chips are our favorite, so it was a bonus to get a free small bag of chips on our way out. Another side benefit of this trip was once you got within a mile of the plant you could roll down your windows and smell the chips! Yum!!
Thanks for sticking with me during my photo show! I took SO many more photos I could probably create a book. Hmmm, maybe I will! Have a great Friday!
