Changes Are Coming to Instagram

|

When I discovered Instagram, I fell in love with the effortless picture taking and filters. I found coding to make Instagram widgets in my blogs. I Pinterest-ed tons of crafty ideas on what to do with my pictures. Heck, my 5yo son even knows what Instagram is! But in the last week, Instagram has released their new Terms of Service and Privacy Policy. And I am not amused. In fact, I think it may be time to break up with Instagram. For now, at least.

I’m sure if you type it in a search engine you’ll find plenty of articles on the changes. Here are a few I read:

CNET, Huffington Post

Now what do I do? What are you going to do?  Well first and most important for me? Get my pictures off Instagram. Now. And most likely close my account. Because while I know my kids are often showing up in my feed, I will not tolerate Instagram using my pictures for ads or selling my pictures in any way, shape or form. Wired has an article explaining more about backing up and saving your photos as well as deleting your account.

1.  I had several sites recommended to me for backing up my Instagram photos, but this site was by far the best for me. Be patient with these sites though as they are really bogged down right now with many people wanting to get their Instagram photos safe. This process took me all of five minutes:

NOTE: Please be aware that making these changes were all MY idea based on what I’ve been reading.  Please take time to read the articles and talk with other Instagram users about the upcoming changes before coming to you conclusions. But be warned…..after mid-January the choice will be taken out of your hands.

So what’s next? I’m still on the hunt, but I am leaning towards Flickr. I plan on playing around with my Flickr acct today and see it if offers what I’m looking for.  I’ll try to post what I find tomorrow.  Cindy
