~My Edelweiss Backpack ~ A Sew Sweetness Pattern!

| |

I’m so excited to be able to finally share the first backpack I’ve ever made!!  Sara from Sew Sweetness is one of the best handbag designers and this is new newest release, The Edelweiss Backpack!

I’ve been testing for Sara for over a year now so I can honestly say she is a fantastic designer and her patterns are a must have for sewists who love to make handbags!  This is the first time I have ever made a backpack (the pattern also has directions for a cross-body option) so I really took my time in the stash shelves to pick out my fabric. In the end I chose my favorite linen for the interior and MoMo Odyssey for the exterior.

2014-03-23 10.02.40If you head over to Sara’s blog today, you’ll see her official release.  She includes a short materials list, links to purchase, and backpacks from a ton of other testers so you can see other versions.  The vinyl and piping bags were my favorite!

2014-03-23 10.07.47The only alterations I made were not installing an interior zipper and the use of 1 1/2″ thick cotton webbing for the straps. It was just a personal preference for me here, but I have another Edelweiss cut out and I’m going to try leather straps this time.  What’s great about these patterns is the option to customize it to your preference.

2014-03-23 10.03.47This is an interior shot of the backpack, which uses bias tape to bind and finish off the edges.  This time around I used a 1/2″ cotton twill tape for binding and I tell ya….think I’ve got a winner here. So easy to use and looks so nice!

If you have never made a backpack or are looking for one to make for school this would be the perfect pattern for you. Plenty of room for a lunchbox, books and other gear. I wouldn’t call it a beginner pattern, so if you are new to sewing you may want to have someone familiar with zippered gussets and snap installation with you while you work.

Thanks for visiting Raspberry Sunshine today and congrats Sara on another awesome release!  Now back to the Featherweight to finish hemming curtains…….
