Our Beach Vacation ~ Part 1~
Happy Monday everyone!! We are back safely from Virginia Beach and enjoyed a wonderful week with our family. We had 4 plane flights that went very smoothly (thank you dramamine!) and uneventful. We flew Southwest both times, so we enjoyed lots of funny comments and add-ons to pre-flight directions. Have you ever had funny attendants like that?
It’s always hard to get back into our schedule after a lazy beach week, but after a day of cleaning and getting the boys and the house back on schedule I can finally relax a bit and upload all the pictures. Over the next week or so I will share some of our adventure with you. The beach view you see is from our balcony at the house. This is our 6th year going to the beach (same house too!) and it never gets old. Well, except for the water…geesh is it cold!!
One of our favorite beach activities is to fish early in the morning. My FIL sets everything up and we’ll fish until the crowds pick up. This year we had a fish-off. With dolphins swimming so close you could tell they were feeding so we cast our lines to see what we could catch. Zee won this year with 27 fish, O caught 16 and T/myself caught 12. They were mostly small spots, blues and croakers that we threw back out once we reeled them in.
This year the boys opted out of sandcastles and spent a lot of time burying each other and digging large holes to jump into and hide. They usually try to dig holes behind our chairs making us big-kids tip over, but we vetoed that one and threw them in the water instead. A mom can only be tipped over so many times, right?
In the evenings we often went outside to play games, fly kites or just sit and watch the ocean. When the sun went down we came inside and watched episodes of Rocky & Bullwinkle (FIL’s favorite beach tradition!) Every day was typically the same, but we were also able to see Despicable Me 2 and go mini-golfing. I was also able to sneak in a little shopping as well.
Later in the week I’ll share a few more beach pictures and also some crafty projects I worked on while I was there. Here is the carry-on bag I made for the trip. Worked perfect for the plane for storage! I love how it turned out will share some more detailed shots this week too.
I am going to start Week 8 of the Zakka 2.0 sew-along which is a small book quilt. Not sure if I will get it all done this week, but I pre-cut all the pieces a few weeks ago so maybe that will help? I am also going to try and build one of those DIY light boxes I’ve seen on Pinterest to see if they really work so I can list a bunch of bags I’ve finished recently. So now that it’s a new week, what are you working on?~Cindy~
