Pretty Finds & Pincushions

2014-03-31 12.27.28My goodness! I have been meaning to get this pictures posted to share with everyone a few days ago, but have been so busy trying to get my DBA and LLC forms completed so I get get up and running again! New York certainly doesn’t make it easy for us teeny-small business owners to work.

Last week during a morning of errands I ran into HomeGoods to see their recent stock. While looking at all the Easter goodies, I saw this adorable dish.  The pattern and style jumped right out at me and in seconds made it into my cart. At $3.99 who could resist?! Doesn’t this remind you of all the vintage fabrics being sold right now? I am kicking myself too because they also had the pattern in a pale blue and pale green background and I didn’t get them!  I am using it to hold small clips I use when I sew larger bags. Perfect.

I have also been slowly working on making a batch of pincushions. I don’t think I’m going to make them available in my shop (at least not yet), but maybe save them for craft fairs or local sales.  The idea for these pincushions came from Amy at Amy Made That!   She has been sharing some wonderful pincushions lately and when I saw her Susan Branch Thoughtful Pincushions, I knew I had to make some!

2014-03-31 12.34.44I couldn’t find Susan Branch fabric online, but then I realized I had some yardage of Sew Stitchy by Aneela Hoey that would be the perfect substitute.  I’m only showing my squirrels here, but the pattern has a ton of other images on them that are easy to divide and cut into.  I think I had about 35 squares total when cut up.  My squirrels are pretty simple, but I am going to bring out my fiber and lace stash soon to see how one would look with some embellishing.

2014-03-31 12.35.53So I have to say a big thank you to Amy for the inspiration and if you ever have a chance to pick out a fabric with easy to cut out larger images, try making a pincushion out of it. A sewist can never have enough pinnies, can we? Thanks for reading and enjoy your Monday!

  1. These are such DARLING little pinnies! I hadn’t seen the adorable images from this fabric line before, and they lend themselves perfectly to pincushions. I’m so thrilled with your shout-out. :0) Hugs!

    1. Thanks Amy! And 1 yard of this fabric with the blocks cut up yield a lot of pinnies too. Great for gifts, huh?!
