The Easy Modern Apron – A New Craftsy class from Betz White
Does your sewing pattern library have an apron in it? If it doesn’t, you need to head over to Craftsy and take the new class from Betz White called The Easy Modern Apron!
This class was released at the perfect time for me. A few months ago as I packed up our house in New York, I threw away my old Williams-Sonoma 10yo apron. Now that we’re settled back home in Florida my sunny cute new kitchen needed a new apron on the pantry hook. So here’s my finished version!
This apron is a great for the beginning sewist. If you are not overly comfortable at a sewing machine this pattern will change your mind. There are only a few pattern pieces, and based on your comfort level you can choose to use up to 3 fabrics to mix together. For mine, I used one main pattern (A hoarded piece of MoMo fabric) and a bright Sunshiny yellow print from JoAnn’s. I just love how it turned out!
The yellow accent fabric was used for the back and neck ties, as well as the waist band and front pockets. As you can see in the above picture, the bib and waistband have a backing to it. The skirt does not, but all seams are nicely finished. And from start to finish I was able to sew this up in about 3 hours. And I took my time.
What I enjoy the most about Craftsy classes is the mix of audio-visual learning. I tend to need a lot of visual hands-on, so watching Betz go through the steps on video and printing out the pattern and directions and having them next to me is a win-win!
Also included in the class file is a coloring page with blank aprons. Now you can play around with colors and patterns before you pick fabric. My apron was made out of cotton, but I have no doubt you could use linen or other material as well. I have a natural linen material that would be perfect for an apron. Add some applique or custom stitching on the pockets? Oh, that would be so cute!
I highly recommend adding this class to your library. Betz does a great job going over the pattern step by step, showing little tips along the way as well. And with all Craftsy classes, it’s easy to communicate with the teacher and other students if you have questions or need clarification.

I am so impressed with your pretty apron and also your lovely kitchen. You sold me in the Craftsy class! However I wonder if the coupon code is correct. I can’t get it to work on my phone or computer…Craftsy converts it to all capitals. Might you be able to confirm the code, please? Thanks so much!!!
