The Gentlemen’s Travel Case ~ Present Perfect Blog Tour ~

Present Perfect - jacket art

Hi everyone! Welcome to Raspberry Sunshine. My name is Cindy and I’m thrilled to be participating in the blog tour for Betz White‘s newest book, Present Perfect! (Interweave) I hope you’ve had a chance to follow along last week as talented bloggers shared their Happy Home and Memorable Moments samples. This week we continue showing you more unique and creative projects from the book and finish up next week with adorable projects for the little ones!

Today I am going to share with you The Gentlemen’s Travel Case.  I took inspiration from the example in the book to make my first case. The exterior is a nice soft denim with accent ribbon and a mid weight cotton interior.

I have sewn many of Betz’s patterns and can honestly say her directions and images are always spot on and easy to understand. The Gentlemen’s Travel Case is no different.  If  you are confident with installing zippers and sewing curves this pattern comes together pretty quick.  It also doesn’t require tons of fabric, so you can dig into your scrap bins and get creative!

The Gentlemen’s Case has plenty of storage with two exterior pockets as well and a nice boxy interior with additional pockets as well.  Each end has pull tabs and one side also has a handle for easy carrying.  Don’t be fooled by the boxy shape either, you can fit a ton of goodies in there!

After I finished my sample, I wanted to make another version for myself (not to mention one of my boys took the denim one from me!!). This time I chose a more feminine pattern and even better it was laminated cotton. So now I have his & her Gentlemen’s Travel Cases!

You can’t go wrong with a well designed case like this. Don’t be afraid to try a laminated cotton, denim, or mid-weight home decor with this pattern too.  They all would look great!  I was able to sew one up in only a few hours from start to finish, perfect timing for a quick gift for a teacher, friend or family member. As for level of difficulty, I would say this pattern is for a confident beginner. Knowledge of zipper installation is important for this pattern.

  1. What a great bag to squirrel away sewing supplies in too. Love how you fussy cut the squirrels. Denim is a real great choice for a guy. Thanks for sharing.
