WIP Wednesday – Empty those scrap bins!
Boy has this week been a true WIP! With the holidays right around the corner I have been busy with events with the boys, appointments and getting ready for Thanksgiving. The hubby’s job always keeps us local, so I’m lucky to not have to stress over the massive amount of food and hotel accommodations are needed. It will be just the 5 of us this year and that’s just fine.
Even with all that’s going on, I have been able to spend some quality time in my studio. Most of my projects are smaller ones, but I have one big project on my WIP list:
A small Christmas quilt/wall hanging! I have been playing around in EQ7 with looks, but still haven’t locked down an idea yet. I really need to get moving though otherwise it will never get done. I’m afraid I’ve been making blocks in EQ7 a little too complex for my experience level, so I really need to delete some of these lines I created!!
Today I finished an adorable bag pattern I tested for Sew Sweetness. This one is a quick sew and great for beginners. I can’t wait to share the rest of the pictures I took, but for now, here’s a sneak peak.
I’m still working on my first ever bag pattern (soon to be named)! In the past week I think I may have taken 200 pictures, so I’m slowly going them to edit and place them in the pattern. There are a few steps I think need clarification so I am making another prototype to take a few more pictures.
Now to the epic WIP – going through my scrap bin. I’ve always had it under my sewing table and toss scraps in there. Don’t most of us have a scrap bin? Well mine was getting a tad ridiculous so last weekend I brought the bin upstairs with my rotary cutter, mat and rulers and started to cut. (I was watching a football game so it wasn’t so bad!)
My goal is to cut a little every week to get more usable scraps. 1″, 1.5″, 2″, 2.5″ squares and/or strips. I have them separated into baggies and have made a decent dent too. I think from now on I will try and trim down leftovers into usable sizes like this as I finish projects. We’ll see how long I remember to do this!!
