XL Zippy Pouch & Sew-Stitchy Score!

|

Yesterday I finished this super-sized quilted linen pouch. I am so excited about it because it finally shows the boxed, flat zipper ends I have trying to achieve for my future products. It’s easy to do this technique on fabric such as this quilted cotton or even home decor if you’re careful, but ultimately I need them perfect for my leather work.  So after lots of sewing practice here is a pouch with my ideal zipper ends!! I used this technique I found on Pinterest and have been refining it to suit my tastes. I think I have a winner!

2014-02-26 17.42.12The background fabric is a panel from the Sew Stitchy line from Aneela Hoey.  I *love* her fabric lines, so when I found a few bolts of her fabrics at our local quilt shop I bought a couple yards.  The panel above would be perfect to embroider over, too bad my embroidery skills are nonexistent!  I thought about making a quilt with it, but there isn’t enough yardage and I didn’t want a lot of stitching over the scenes.  But then I read a recent blog post by Amy Made That!…by eamylove and I found what I wanted to do with this fabric. PINCUSHIONS!!

Here’s a close-up of the panels. I have started to cut out the blocks very carefully and should have 28 blocks when done.  I am going to try and follow the directions Amy gave on her site, so once I finish a few I’ll post them.  I am not going to do all 28 blocks, but enough to put some in my shop and for restocking.  I also picked up a few yards of the coordinating blue hexagon print as well.  I may use this as the backing for a few of the pincushions as well. What do you think?

Hope you all are well. I’ve been on my own with the boys this week so it’s been a bit crazy around these parts! One more day until the weekend….
